40 Years of GIWA Plastic Technology – Innovation, Sustainability, and Growth from Bavaria

GIWA Kunststofftechnik is celebrating its 40th anniversary, looking back on an impressive success story. Since its founding by Walter Götzfried in 1985, the company has evolved from a regional supplier into an internationally recognized developer and manufacturer of high-quality plastic solutions.

Having started out in Thierhaupten, the company made Westendorf, in southern Germany, its permanent home in 1986. By 1988, the first expansion of production facilities was completed—marking the start of a continuous journey of growth. Milestones such as winning the German Packaging Award in 1993 for innovative plastic quarter pallets, entering the automotive sector in 1998, and receiving the Focus Top Climate Award as the most sustainable plastics processor in 2023 and 2024 demonstrate GIWA’s innovative strength. Today, the company employs around 150 people and supplies well-known customers in logistics, industry and construction, office furniture, and household goods. With numerous expansions—most recently in 2016, adding another 6,000 m²—GIWA has established itself as a reliable partner. Since January 2021, Daniel Sieberer has been leading the company as Managing Director & Owner, ushering in a new era.

Sustainability as a Corporate Principle

A central element of the company’s strategy is sustainability: In 2023, a state-of-the-art recycling center was opened at the Westendorf site, capable of processing up to 5,000 tons of plastic annually into high-quality recyclate in a fully automated process. GIWA is thus consistently committed to a circular economy—both in the production of new plastic parts and in the reprocessing of existing products. Thanks to investments in closed material cycles, GIWA can now cover 70% of its plastic requirements with recycled materials. Certifications according to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and DIN 50001:2018 demonstrate the company’s strong commitment to quality and environmental responsibility.

Technological Expansion with Vision

A new production section is currently being built at the Westendorf site, which will be equipped with state-of-the-art injection molding machines at the beginning of 2026. These machines offer an impressive clamping force of up to 3,000 tons—enabling GIWA to manufacture plastic parts in entirely new dimensions and with previously unattainable complexity. This opens up new fields of application and sets new standards in the large-scale production of complex plastic components. In its anniversary year 2025, GIWA is making a special statement: With the customizable office chair component Xignature®—a chair base made from 100% recycled plastic—the company is launching its own product for the first time, combining design, functionality, and sustainability.

"It is the imagination of a better future that allows us to see and pursue new paths. For four decades, GIWA has stood for quality, reliability, and innovative strength. Our goal is to actively shape the future of plastics technology—responsibly, sustainably, and always with our customers in mind," as stated by Daniel Sieberer, Managing Director & Owner of GIWA. "I am proud to be part of this success story and to set new standards together with our dedicated team."
